Subtractive notation
The chart on each PDF lists the seven letter values and the common subtractive forms (IV, IX, XL, XC, CD, CM). Problems use standard modern Roman numerals; answers should match textbook conventions.
Choosing a size range
The 1–12 band matches clock faces. Larger bands add two- and three-digit Arabic numbers while keeping numerals within classical rules (up to 3999, which is the usual upper limit for letter-only Roman numerals).
