Three kinds of percent thinking
Percent of a number builds the core model: multiply by the fraction p/100 (or move the decimal twice). Discounts ask for a reduced price — subtract the savings or multiply by (100 − p)%. Tips are a percent of a bill; many curricula keep dollar amounts with two decimals so rounding to the nearest cent is part of the answer check.
Using this worksheet
- Run one mode per homework sheet so vocabulary stays consistent ("sale price" vs "tip amount").
- After percent of a number, move to discounts so students see the same percent used as areduction instead of a chunk taken from zero.
- Shuffle before printing so siblings or different periods cannot reuse the same numbers from a posted answer key photo.
